We are always fascinated by colonial architecture and the ‘in your face’ rather twee design; driven by a need for some English administrators to create a home from home in India. While we generally prefer the rich mixture of both Indian and European architecture, we often enjoy such colonial cottages set in stunning gardens, with a feeling of space and nature and fascinating artefacts; many of which are still in good condition. A great choice for anglophiles and nature lovers alike. Just the smell of the flowers outside your room relax your mind and allow you to time travel to another era
Part of the well known ‘Welcome Heritage’ group of hotels, known for their portfolio of historic Rajasthan Hotels. They describe Connaught House as an English Cottage (pretty big one!). Former owners include a Maharaja, Chief Minister of Mewar and various Indian and English officials from the colonial era. 10 unique cottages – some with period furniture and carpets – are surround by extensive gardens and trees.
